Wellbeing; self-care; positive mental health.
However you like to describe them, these practices play an important role in our daily lives − both inside and outside of the workplace.
Our society has become more open and willing to talk about mental health issues, which is great! With mental health becoming less of a taboo topic, businesses are seeking new ways in which to support the wellbeing of their employees and embrace a positive working culture, particularly post-pandemic. And with good reason, according to government statistics:
In the recent years prior to the coronavirus pandemic, the rate of self-reported work-related stress, depression or anxiety had shown signs of increasing. In 2020/21 the rate was higher than the 2018/19 pre-coronavirus levels.*
The recent pandemic has affected employees in many ways. From the sense of isolation brought on by lockdown and working from home (still a reality for many) to the significant changes in how workplaces are now run. So, it feels more important than ever to make sure everyone feels supported in their role.
Of course, the benefits work of employee wellbeing works both ways. Employees who take time to recharge and reset will be more engaged and productive at work. Everyone wins!
Workplace Wellbeing – What is it and Why is it Important?
![]()
Stress is often unavoidable, particularly in a busy and highly stressful working environment. We can’t eradicate it completely, and we shouldn’t, it is a primal response that can help us deal with dangerous situations. But that’s a whole other article! What we can do is manage stress so that it doesn’t take over our lives, make us unhappy, anxious, or even ill.
Workplace wellbeing isn’t complicated, and it isn’t just a case of sending employees on a spa day (though I’m sure many of them would like that, too!). Actually, it’s about taking steps to make sure employees have space to relax, decompress and clear their head.
Here are some of the ways workplace wellbeing benefits both the employees and the organisation:
- It creates a positive working environment can reduce stress and increase employee engagement and organisational performance.
- Good health and wellbeing can also help prevent stress and foster a positive working environment.
- Workplace wellbeing attracts and retain employees, guaranteeing an organisation’s long-term success and effectiveness.
- It boosts reputation, which is both good for business and for attracting the right staff.
- Employees are the face of a business, and service users benefit from happy and efficient staff. Happy staff = happy customers!
The Power of the Outdoors

We believe that one of the best ways to de-stress and gain perspective is to spend time outdoors.
A recent study has shown** that outdoor nature-based activities are effective for improving mental health in adults, including those with pre-existing mental health problems. The research – led by the University of York – showed that taking part in outdoor, nature-based activities led to improved mood, less anxiety, and positive emotions.
This is why nature is at the heart of our wellbeing workshops. Our aim is to give business owners and their employees the chance to get away from the busy workplace in a completely different environment, and also bring teams together and boost their overall rapport.
